So now my scanner is crapping out, stupid onetouch piece of.... Well, only after about a year of having bought this thing its the second one touch to fall by the waist side so quickly. The first was a gift previously owned so I thought it might've been a fluke. This experienced has taught me, never another onetouch. I express my utter disdain for this company.... anyways this has set me back a bit. A real post to come soon hopefully

Sorry for my continual absence. My personal and professional life have been met with frequent and drastic change as of late. I'm currently undertaking a big project at my job that is taking a lot of time from me and I also have to devote more of my free time to the family business. I've been recovering from my injury, very slowly. I can draw now, but very little and again slowly. I've been working on something here and there little by little, so I'll be posting something soon. I'll also try and post up some doodles to. Happy holidays to all and all that jazz

I've been having a hard time to really keep up at doing much lately. I'm especially 'bumbed' today. I just found out some news that's particularly disappointing and I don't take bad news well at all. It doesn't take much to put me down and I've always questioned whether I may have some personality disorder because of that. It's extremely hard to pull myself out of it though, and even harder now. These past days I've been sleeping mostly since my job Isn't awarding me extra hours anymore, I have to learn to live with myself in my current state. I wonder if maybe soon I'll fall into that pit that many artist I've know off have fallen before me and finally successfully terminate my own existence...It's particularly difficult now to stray away from it. Even at my greatest things aren't very optimistic. Even when I am able to draw how and what I want to I'm only marginally successful. That's an overstatement. I don't get much encouragement from what I do..., any encouragement really. I've been frequently told to give up and at times like these those voices echo harshly throughout me. Forgive me for this diatribe, but here's some practices I've done with my right hand that I've neglected to post up,

Initial attempts at trying to have control in shapes and lines. I did circles and 's' shapes to try and build technique.

The first is just a quick run attempt trying to gauge the accuracy of my hand. The second was an attempt at trying to build more detail constantly smudging and drawing and drawing over my initial passes.

By this point I began to approach my technique differently with more patience. I was a bit proud of the first and later moved on to second using some reference for the top drawing and later free handing the bottom.

This is the most recent one. Reference was used here and I'm trying to play with the shapes I can create with my right hand. Still not quite an accurate display of my imagination but nothing ever has been, the shapes are somewhat interesting though, maybe a bit sloppy too.

It's been a long and difficult time healing, but in the process I feel I've learned something about myself. The pain has been agonizing at times but more than the physical pain I felt an internal pain at the inability to readily express myself the way I used to. I began to come up with ways to create art without taxing my arm. Initially the methods seemed to work however I still needed to use my left arm a little, this little use eventually became to much. So I've constantly have had to find ways to work around my handicap, but even still I feel a strong drive to continue to create. If by any misfortune I should loose my arm I know I'd continue to create in which ever means I could. I now understand more than I ever had, that I'm an artist. There have been tough times and there will continue to be tough times ahead, but I know I will push through them. Thank you to all my friends and loved ones who have supported me throughout, and to you assholes who have always tried to put me down and discourage me, that just gives me more reason to rise above.

I'm still practicing with my right, but it's slow and frstrating. It's going to be while before things get better. Forgive the typos I'm typing with one hand.

My left hand's still busted. It's getting better but I'm using as little as possible. That means no drawing or painting at least not with my left hand. Here's my latest attempt at drawing right handed. There are still things to get over, mainly the complete lack of skill. I'm remembering a lot of the frustrations I had as a kid learning to draw. This time however I have more knowledge at my disposal, that does help a bit. I still can't make the kind of shapes I want to and I need to have a lot of patience with each drawing, but I think I may actually make something out of this if I try hard enough

I am left handed. Every once in a while I'll "over use" my arm and tire myself out. Resulting in days of soreness. Usually I'll just take a break, at most a week. But this time its' different. I have a severe pain, and last night I couldn't sleep right. I'm more than a little concerned. Hopefully through therapy and rest my hand will return to normal, but until then I have to use my hand as little as possible. I can't help but want to draw. I've been drawing since I was five. It's a part of me like breathing. That's not in any way an exaggeration. Thinking of a life without art for me is not a life worth living. I feel lost and useless. So, what can I do. For now I'll practice with my right hand in hopes of alleviating the pressure on my left. This is an attempt at that. Considering the time it took me to build the confidence in my work with my left, I've got a long way to go.

Gesture drawing

The point of gesture drawing is to quickly lay out what your see and set the foundation for the rest of your work, if you choose to ad more. But when your deliberately working to do gestures the idea is to challenge your understanding of the human form, or animal form for that matter. It's a way for you as an artist to see were your at with your ability to render form and your understanding of locomotion. This technique will help in any medium of art. I'm always surprised at how little professional artist and people in the "industry" know about this, but you'd do yourself a favor in learning it.

My Mother suffers from Rheumatoid Arthritis. She has for well over thirty years now. It's a particular nasty disease that attacks her joints, primarily her hands, and recently her spine. She's semi incapacitated and has trouble doing things most of us take for granted. She's had 4 surgeries in less than 10 years, her most recent one, a hysterectomy, was particularly painful for her. I staid with her during her stay at the hospital forgoing sleep and comfort to try and help her feel at ease. Recently she's been prescribed chemotherapy in hopes of relieving her of some if not most of her arthritis and maybe even repairing some of the damage. It was in one of these sessions that I drew this picture from. It's really boring sitting there as the IV slowly implements her medicine. It can also be a bit depressing as you see many cancer patients there as well. Even in her condition my Mom laments over the suffering of others. I try and keep her entertained and distracted as much as I can.

Josuke is a character that grew on me. It was towards the end of part 4 "Diamond is unbreakable" that Araki began to favor the style he uses now, and I think that's when Josuke looked best. In any case a great character from a great story in a great series by a great artist.

I was at a bar last night with some friends watching the UFC fight and odly enough I wasn't sketching any of the fighters. Instead my mind was on the fairer sex and I drew up a few ladies. I've only just now returned home from that night of debauchery, just in time to avoid the super bowl :)~

Don't mind the misspelled katakana on the last picture there. The correct spelling supposed to be "Gaaru" (girl) it reads "Giaru" (???). If liquor makes it hard to spell in a language you know what would you expect it to do to a language your barely familiar with...

So I've been playing Castlevania Harmony of .... something ( you know they got those dark long titles with big words I never heard before). So I'm pretty obsessed with this game and trying to get all the rare items, but they like never drop! It's ridiculous!! I've put in so many hours and now I feel like I wasted my day. My friend's been hoping to hang out and make some songs with me, and I've been playing this freaking game!... Been watching David Attenborough specials through netflix recently. That guy and his crew have the most uncanny ability to find, get close and shoot the most amazing animals. Anyway as is my nature I began to draw the stuff I saw. Don't mind the bird drawings at the end there, they suck. I was having a hard time studying their shapes.

So for most of you this probably marks the end of an era and opportunity to begin something new and start fresh. Well I don't really think of it that way, because while people are beginning their new years resolutions, I couldn't give a damn. See to me the mere notion that one should wait for an ancillary event to act on something is in itself procrastinating, therefore not a likely attitude to bring about change, and the reason why most resolutions fail. So If I want to change something in my life I best do it as soon as I realize it. As you can tell I'm a bit of a prude and more so doing this time of year were people follow their traditions which I can't help but think of them as being silly. Not to mention the weather, cold and rainy days, people getting sick, cars breaking down. All in all I hate the winter and If I could I'd leave somewhere to get away. But I blow away my vacation money during summer, where the parties are really at.
However It's not all grim and grime right now. I did have a particularly hard time this month dealing with friends, or lack thereof, and family, wishing I had a lack thereof sometimes, but I made some advancements in my career have been able to offer some help and joy to people who really need it. I also indulged myself in a few pleasures that might have taken a bit more than I'd hoped from my bank account. I also finally got my own studio space which I'm really excited about and after some trouble with that initially I've worked most of the problems and once I put some time and money into it I'll be able to fully enjoy a bigger space solely dedicated to my work.
I'm rambling now so I'll just close off by saying I wish you all happy new year with joy and prosperity in your future. Remember, all that is worth achieving is done so with hard work, sacrifice and dedication.
